Burhanpur
Burhanpur District is a famous for medieval History. Burhanpur town was used by Mughals to control south India. It is situated at the Bank of Tapti River.
Some centuries ago, Burhanpur was a major contender for the site of the Taj Mahal. It is unknown to many that Mumtaz Mahal died in Burhanpur giving birth to her fourteenth child, Gauhar Begum and was buried here for the next 23 years waiting the completion of her famed tomb i.e. Taj Mahal at Agra.
Asirgarh fort known as "Dakhkhan ka darwaza". Without wining this fort it was impossible to have control on southern india. Maharastra Border touches the District.
Nepa paper mill is situated in this District.
Description
Burhanpur declared as District on August 15, 2003, the southern most district of the state.
The river Tapti circulates in the neighbourhood from east to west. The area is divided Khandwa district to the north by the Satpura Range between the Narmada River Valley and the Valley of the Tapti.
The pass by the Satpuras which connects Burhanpur & Khandwa is one of the main roads linking northern and southern India, and the fortress Asirgarh, which commands the map, is known as the key of the Deccan.
The area is divided into two blocks development, Burhanpur & Khaknar and three tehsils, Nepanagar, Burhanpur & Khaknar. Burhanpur district is falls under Indore Division.
